Last week Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a state of emergency in Tokyo. The restrictions put in place by this most recent state of emergency are set to last until May 11th (after Golden Week). This decision was made in response to a spike in cases in Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto. Health experts have warned of the spread of highly contagious variants of the coronavirus, primarily a type first detected in Britain. A Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare panel estimates variants account for about 80 percent of all cases in Osaka and Hyogo and a rapidly growing share in Tokyo. We are monitoring the situation closely, and have decided to cancel all after-school clubs and events until May 12th. However, school will remain open in the evenings until 5pm for the following essential academic reasons:
- Advanced Placement Exam Study Sessions
- Academic Probation
- Honor’s Literature
Leadership at KAIS may decide to take further action to safeguard our students, staff, and community, and if we do you will be notified immediately. Thank you for remaining supportive and vigilant during these trying times. Please stay healthy and safe this Golden Week season.
